❤️‍🩹 Healing through patience, presence and space

We often forget that healing is built into us—not something we need to chase or control. Mindfulness helps us return to our natural state of balance, allowing body, mind and heart to realign with ease.

“To heal is to touch with love that which we previously touched with fear.” — Stephen Levine

Dear Reader

Our body naturally heals. If we scrape our knee, over time the blood stops, the pain fades, the skin grows back and we are whole again.

Our whole biological system is designed for wholeness and healing. If something is out of kilter or not working, our inbuilt healing and balancing mechanism will do its best to get it to work and bring it back into balance.

We can trust this movement to healing and movement to wholeness; it applies equally well to our emotional and psychological life which is just as grounded in nature as the parts of our body.

Giving yourself dedicated time to heal, to re-balance, is critical for good emotional and mental health. It allows this natural adjustment and alignment that is in-built in us to come to the fore. Just as we go for walks or go to the gym for our physical health, we take time out to practise formal mindfulness and meditation for our mental and emotional health.

Unless our emotional and mental pain and hurt is acute, disruptive or overwhelming, sitting with ourselves in silence gives our mental and emotional body time to reset and restore itself and for the natural healing process to kick in.

So often we can over-complicate matters. Our mind tells us there is something wrong, something needing to be fixed or to be got rid of. Very often though, this way of thinking is an outcome of a dysregulated nervous system. More thinking, more adding, more fixing does nothing because it's just more of the same.

In these cases, all that is often required is for us to step back, provide space for our natural balancing to take effect, and have faith in ourselves and the healing process.

We find that our nervous system quite naturally then regulates, we feel whole, held, safe and complete. Presence holds us.

At this time, our mind quietens down and is no longer trying to warn us of any threat or need to be fixed.

We get the opportunity to experience our natural and in-built healing and balancing capacity—and it feels great.

🧘‍♀️ Mini Mindfulness Exercise: Healing and Balance

Duration: 10 minutes

  1. Settle: Sit comfortably, allowing your body to rest naturally. Feel the gentle rise and fall of your breath.
  2. Sense the Body: Bring your attention to your body—the warmth, the pulse, the quiet aliveness beneath the skin. Notice any areas of tension or unease without trying to change them.
  3. Let Go of Fixing: Instead of analysing or solving, simply allow. Imagine your body knows exactly what to do—just as it heals a cut, it can also heal the subtle stress and tightness you carry.
  4. Breathe and Trust: With each breath, sense a quiet intelligence restoring balance. You might silently repeat: “My body and mind know how to return to balance.”
  5. Rest in Wholeness: For a few moments, rest in the sense of being whole—nothing to add, nothing to remove. Just this.

Why this helps:
When we stop trying to “fix” our experience, the nervous system relaxes and natural repair mechanisms—both physical and emotional—can operate freely. This is mindfulness as nature intended: a gentle return to our inherent wholeness.
